Sharpton needs to a) STFU and b) remember that the shoe is now on the other foot

A New York Post cartoon Wednesday drew fire from civil rights activist Al Sharpton, who says the image invokes a history of racism to suggest that an ape wrote President Obama's economic stimulus package.

The cartoonist, Sean Delonas, called Sharpton's umbrage "ridiculous," and the newspaper defended its decision to run the cartoon.

The comic showed two police officers standing over the body of a chimpanzee they just shot, a reference to this week's mauling of a Connecticut woman by a pet chimp, which police killed after the attack. In the cartoon, one of the officers tells the other, "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill."

I'm an Obama supporter and very against racism, but consider this...for eight years many (myself included) derided President Bush with references to chimps (one liberal blog is even called "The Smirking Chimp", in dishonor to Bush, arguably one of the worst to hold the office). I don't think the cartoon Sharpton is bitching about is necessarily racist...it's hard-hitting political satire, and politics is a full-contact sport.
