On the day that President-elect Barack Obama is visiting the White House, a new national poll suggests that the current occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is the most unpopular president since approval ratings were first sought more than six decades ago.
Seventy-six percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Monday disapprove of how President Bush is handling his job.
That's an all-time high in CNN polling and in Gallup polling dating back to World War II.
Maybe it has something to do with competence...or maybe the dictator-style Executive Branch he tried to run. The lack of transparency, the disaster that is the Iraq War, the disaster that is the economy (and the massive debt he's incurred in giving rich folks and rich industries big breaks, a the expense of the middle class).
This presidential election was as much a referendum on Bush as anything...if you had "R" by your name, and you (like McCain) supported the Bush policies, you got tossed out, by and large. Because when you boil away all the rhetoric, you realize that we made a very grave mistake in 2000 (and another in 2004) by electing (then reelecting) the worst President in the nation's modern history. The only thing that got him in was the vote of Christian conservatives, the "religious right", and we have now conclusively proven that they were wrong on Bush. No administration in modern history in this nation has been more inept, more secretive, more vindictive, or more wrong on issues across the board. I think most Americans just want to forget that this loser was ever President...even "red state" Americans, who in 9 states turned "blue" to usher in a new and better leader.
Go back to Crawford, Bush...and let the rest of us get to work fixing your mess.
