A correction regarding Gov. Palin and the Alaskan Independence Party

I made a few posts mentioning Gov. Sarah Palin's membership in the Alaskan Independence Party. In my defense, Lynette Clark, the Chairman of the AIP, had stated that Gov. Palin was a former member. As it turns out, Gov. Palin was never a member herself...her husband Todd was until 2000, but not Sarah Palin herself. Lynette Clark has made this clear in the above linked letter and apologized for her mistake, and based on that I now wish to clarify that Sarah Palin was NOT a member of the AIP.

However, it does not change the fact that she has supported the party, as evidenced by these remarks in Chairman Clark's letter:

My statement was incorrect regarding the Governor's membership. What was correct was that Todd Palin was a member, that Sarah as a candidate for Governor appeared at the AIP Convention in 2006, and sent a welcoming DVD to the membership at the 2008 AIP statewide convention.

So no, Gov. Palin was not a registered member, but it's clear that she did support the party during her gubernatorial campaign and as Governor of Alaska. This should set the record straight.
