I got an email from a Democratic Party group mentioning that New York Governor Eliot Spitzer's resignation was not needed and that articles of impeachment being drafted by the New York state assembly were politically motivated.
I couldn't disagree more.
New York's state constitution reads much like the United States Constitution, and with regards to impeachment of the top officeholder (in this case the governor) it refers to "high crimes and misdemeanors". Some are arguing that engaging in prostitution doesn't meet that "high crime" standard, and if he'd have simply had a fling with a call girl I might agree (though I'd certainly expect sanction and/or resignation). However...he committed a felony (this crossed state lines), and he apparently did so repeatedly.
If that doesn't rate impeachment...what does?
