Roll call vote results for Condoleeza Rice's confirmation as Secretary of State are published.
Voting "Nay" were:
Akaka (D-HI)
Bayh (D-IN)
Boxer (D-CA)
Byrd (D-WV)
Dayton (D-MN)
Durbin (D-IL)
Harkin (D-IA)
Jeffords (I-VT)
Kennedy (D-MA)
Kerry (D-MA)
Lautenberg (D-NJ)
Levin (D-MI)
Reed (D-RI)
Not voting:
Burns (R-MT)
Gregg (R-NH)
The rest...yeas.
I'm somewhat surprised at a few of the yeas...Clinton (D-NY), Feinstein (D-CA), in particular.
But I'm not surprised she was confirmed, and I don't fault those who felt that she could be voted for. While her veracity and blind loyalty are questionable, precedent says that Presidents get pretty broad discretion for their cabinets.
The real fight is Alberto Gonzales.
